He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Łódź University of Technology in 1987, with diploma with honors in the specialty of cars and tractors. In the same year, he joined the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery as a trainee designer. He was promoted, reaching increasingly senior positions, first in the engineering and technical team, and since 1989 in the scientific and didactic team. In 1998, he defended his doctoral dissertation, ‘Studies of the turbine of a reciprocating engine charging unit under stationary and non-stationary power supply conditions’ at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Łódź University of Technology. A postdoctoral examination was held in 2006, at which he presented a monograph entitled ‘Mechanical tilting disk heart valve with nanocrystalline diamond layer’.
Obtaining a postdoctoral degree strengthened the activities of the group of young scientists supervised by Krzysztof Jóźwik, BEng, PhD, DSc. The team executed a lot of works for industry (Dresser-Rand, Faurecia, PSA Citroen&Peugeot, Eurocopter – later Airbus Helicopters), including calculations and propulsion design for the world’s fastest helicopter, the X3. At the same time, numerical test methods for blood flows were being developed.
From 2008 to 2012, he was a leader of ‘Development of mechanical heart valves and air supply system for the controller of pneumatic cardiac support chambers’ task in the ‘Polish Artificial Heart’ strategic project. The experience gained in the course of researching blood flows resulted in the preparation of a monograph entitled ‘Modelling of Blood Flows,’ published in 2013, as well as chapters in a series of monographs summarizing the ‘Polish Artificial Heart’ strategic project. In 2014, he received professor nomination in the area of technical sciences. During 36 years of work, he has managed or carried out more than 200 works for industry, and has managed or been a contractor on 19 projects, including the current management of two Horizon projects. 446 citations of publications authored or co-authored by Krzysztof Jóźwik have been recorded in the Scopus database (the Hirsch index is 12).
Krzysztof Jóźwik was a Vice Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from 2002 to 2008, for two terms. From 2006 to 2012, he was a visiting professor at Coventry University. In 2007, he was appointed to the Management Board of Łódzki Regionalny Park Naukowo-Technologiczny Sp. z o.o. as a member of the Management Board. He held this position for 10 years. Since 2007, he has been a director of the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of Łódź University of Technology. From 2008 to 2012, he was a Vice-Rector for Education. In 2009, he was appointed as External Examiner at Cranfield University and continues to hold this position. From January 2020, he was a Vice-Rector for Education, and from March he headed the Łódź University of Technology Crisis Center in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. Since September 2020, he has been a Rector of Łódź University of Technology.
