Bogusław Buszewski PhD, DSc, ProfTit, Professor is a specialist in analytical chemistry and physical chemistry. He graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin. In 1986, he received a doctoral degree at the Faculty of Chemical Technology of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. He was awarded a postdoctoral degree in 1992, and the academic titles of professor of chemistry and full professor in 1994 and 1999, respectively. He was a fellow of the Alexander Humboldt Foundation at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Tübingen, as well as a number of other fellowships at recognized research centers (Kent State University, OH; Kyoto Institute of Technology; Lund University, etc). Research interests of prof. Buszewski are related to analytical, medicinal, materials and environmental chemistry as well as the physicochemistry of surface phenomena and the application of chromatography and related techniques (HPLC, SPE, GC, CZE, P&T/GC, GC/MS, LC/MS). He also works on sample preparation methods, spectroscopy and chemometrics. He is an author and co-author of more than 770 publications, 58 patents and numerous invited lectures. He is one of the most cited Polish chemists (more than 29,000 citations, h = 74. Supervisor of 47 doctorates and 25 completed postdoctoral thesis. Six of his students are titular professors. For his numerous merits, the Professor has been many times awarded at home and abroad, including the Golden Cross of Merit, the Knight’s and Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Medal of the Commission of National Education, the Thorunium Medal and the Medal for Distinguished Service to the University of Krakow, the Medal of Prof. W. Kemula and the Medal of J. Śniadecki, the Gold Medal of the Slovak Chemical Society and the Moldavian Academy of Sciences, as well as awards, including those of the Prime Minister of Poland, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Minister of Health, the Humboldt Foundation, EuCheMS, the Supreme Technical Organization, PTChem, the Award and Medal of Prof. R. Kaliszan (Polpharma SA, Medical University of Gdańsk) and the professorial subvention “Master” of the Foundation for Polish Science, or the M.Curie-Skłodowska Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Prof. Buszewski has been awarded with the title of honorary professor at the Wrocław University of Life Sciences, as well as doctor honoris causa at six academic centers at home and abroad. He served as a president of the Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum, president of the Polish Chemical Society and president of the European Society for Separation Science (two terms each). He was a member of the Central Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles (two terms). He is currently a vice-chairman of the Council for Scientific Excellence and chairman of the Committee on Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and chairman of the Central European Group for Separation Sciences. He is also a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the European Academy of Arts and Sciences (Salzburg, Austria). He is an originator and currently heads the Prof. Jan Czochralski Kuyavian-Pomeranian Science and Technology Center in Toruń.
